SUSE 8.2 Pro and Alcatel SpeedTouch 330 USB modem
Hi i have tried to get my usb speedtouch modem working in SUSE 8.2 Pro. I followed the following guide from SUSE's website.
http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/configSpeedTouch.html However YAST2 does not recognise my modem. I'm sorry if i haven't given enough information, i am new to Linux and have tried unsuccessfully to setup my modem in Redhat 9. If you need more information then let me know. Thanks in advance! |
hello
good to see a new linux user! i just did a search on google for your modem make model and stuck +linux on the end and got this back http://www.xs4all.nl/~pschram/english.html give it ago, have a play around and see what you come up with failing that search again on google for your modem and stick +linux on the end of the search term and there was a fair few results there :) |
hi thanks for replying.
I have already tried that tutorial in Redhat 9, unfortunately i was unsuccessfull. I have already searched google and tried a lot of the methods mentioned, so far i have been unsuccessful. |
what exatly is it saying when you plug it in?
do you have anyother usb devices? if so plug one in does it work? |
I have a usb mouse which works fine.
In SUSE i don't really have an error message to show (At least i don't know where to find it :S ) I do have a screenshot of the error in Redhat if that would be any use? |
yeah any error messages you can get
on my system most error messages ( syslog stuff ) is dumped into a text file called /var/log/messages :) |

I have the same problem, running Mandrake 9.1 or 9.2. Some say its the Realtec nic. I've tried to get on the internet using a Speedtouch 330 modem after fysically removing the NIC. That worked fine. Also without an installed NIC it worked. The last thing I've red is the use of an DHCP client. I'm studying on that. ASAP I know more, I'll be back.
But it is very quiet in this corner. |
Yesterday I was able to link to internet under Linux with the speedtouch330 modem. I switched to RedHat 9, used the discription of Peter Schram. No errors, no connection. Yesterday I found the speedtouchconf script on Sourceforge.net. This script was a succes.
