RTL8150 USB NIC "Rx status -84" failure

I have a machine running Gentoo that has a USB Nic in it, from Hawking Technologies model HUF11, that uses the RTL8150 driver. This NIC will randomly stop working, and I don't know if the issue is with the NIC or with the box itself. When it fails if I go to /var/kern.log I get a repeating message that says the following:

There are also entries like this:

Is this a NIC hardware issue, or an issue with the machine. Either way where do I go next? Thanks

same problem here on ubuntu and intellinet nic

ubuntu all versions until 8.0.4.1 same problem.
hardware:
eeepc 701
intellinet usb adapter (rtl8150 based)

anyone know a solution?
