RedHat 9.0 display
Good day,
I'm completely new to the Linux experience, and just installed RedHat 9 last night. It worked fine until I adjusted the display to 1024 x 768, and now RedHat starts up with a very colorful streaked display and stays that way. I have no idea what's going on or how to fix it. My laptop doesn't have a floppy drive yet, so I didn't make a boot flop. I'm running XP/RedHat dual boot on a Dell 8600 with a GeForce go5200 32mb graphics chip. One thing I noticed was that it was using Vesa drivers because I couldn't find my card in the list of display devices. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. |
when you get to the login screen (if you do) or when you think there should be a login screen press CTRL + ALT + F1 to switch to console command line. Login as root with your root password. Then navigate with commands:
cd /etc/X11/ and there copy the config file with command cp -f XF86Config.old XF86Config-4 then press CTRL + ALT + F7 to switch back to graphic mode and there press CTRL + ALT + Backspace to reset the X server. That should fix your problem and set you to the default graphics settings. |
