RedHat 9.0 display

Good day,

I'm completely new to the Linux experience, and just installed RedHat 9 last night. It worked fine until I adjusted the display to 1024 x 768, and now RedHat starts up with a very colorful streaked display and stays that way. I have no idea what's going on or how to fix it. My laptop doesn't have a floppy drive yet, so I didn't make a boot flop.

I'm running XP/RedHat dual boot on a Dell 8600 with a GeForce go5200 32mb graphics chip. One thing I noticed was that it was using Vesa drivers because I couldn't find my card in the list of display devices.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

when you get to the login screen (if you do) or when you think there should be a login screen press CTRL + ALT + F1 to switch to console command line. Login as root with your root password. Then navigate with commands:

cd /etc/X11/

and there copy the config file with command

cp -f XF86Config.old XF86Config-4

then press CTRL + ALT + F7 to switch back to graphic mode and there press CTRL + ALT + Backspace to reset the X server. That should fix your problem and set you to the default graphics settings.
