RAID 1 Setup
I have a system that is running CENTOS 4.4 and I have it fully configured and tweaked. My mbb has a RAID controller built into it and I wanted to add a secondary HDD and make it a RAID 1 (disk mirroring) and have it mirror the other drive in the event of a crash. I will add a tape backup later but for now I would like to implement RAID 1. How can this be done in linux. thanks

Have a read of your RAID manual (get it from manufacturer's site) & have a careful look through your RAID bios - usually there's a message at boot & a key combination to start it eg. "Hit Ctrl-H to enter RAID bios".
If your fortunate, you may be able to do a Non-Destructive build of a RAID 1, if it doesn't say non-destructive I usually assume it will blank the contents of both drives. If that's a no-go, you might be able to do a software RAID build in Linux - I've used mdadm to create them before & it's worked perfectly - although I've never set it up on a system disk, only on mounted drives. Good luck |
I will give it a shot thanks
