Have a read of your RAID manual (get it from manufacturer's site) & have a careful look through your RAID bios - usually there's a message at boot & a key combination to start it eg. "Hit Ctrl-H to enter RAID bios".
If your fortunate, you may be able to do a Non-Destructive build of a RAID 1, if it doesn't say non-destructive I usually assume it will blank the contents of both drives.
If that's a no-go, you might be able to do a software RAID build in Linux - I've used mdadm to create them before & it's worked perfectly - although I've never set it up on a system disk, only on mounted drives. Good luck
