Here's some information that might help.
Please note that I was trying to install various drivers available on the Live CD while I entered these commands, so U might find some information abt some drivers that I tried below.

i suspect it may be that the kernel version and version of alsa on this older release don't support your hardware. I have had this before and found it just worked on a later version of knoppix....

human_algorithm 05-06-2006 01:50 AM

Ok, I guess I'll just download the latest version of Knoppix (4.0.2 I think) and try it.
Also, if all my hardware gets detected on this new Knoppix, is it safe to say that it will get detected on other distros( say Ubuntu 5.10) as they might be running the same kernel versions?

satinet 05-06-2006 02:12 PM

yes, i would be surprised if it doesn't work.........

human_algorithm 05-08-2006 01:25 AM

Hey, I downloaded Knoppix 4.0. Congfigured DHCP broadcast and internet started working thru my adsl router connected to my onboard LAN card through ethernet connection. However sound still doesnt work :( It still says

Couldnt open audio
Please check that Your sound card is configured properly
You have the correct output plugin selected
No other program is blocking the sound card

I have a Intel 915GAVL motherboard with a onboard sound card, and the kernel version is 2.6.12 as expected.
