Nvidia driver problem on shutdown
I'm running Mandrake 9.2
I loaded the new Nvidia driver (5328) for my Geforce 4 ti 4200 and everything is working alright except when i shut down. When computer loads it is set to automatically load Kde 3.1 and when i shut down the monitor looses the feed and so I can't see if all the services are shutting down. If I don't load Kde automatically everything is fine until I enter and exit kde, it goes blank.. I then have to blindly change to root user and type halt. Newbie so take it easy on the instuctions please Thanks |
Hmm...
I've had a problem that sounds like it might be similar to this-- have you tried switching to a different virtual console (ctr-alt-F2 through F7) while you shut down? You might be able to see then... also, is this issue preventing the computer from shutting down at all, or is it just a matter of not being able to see?

Well I didn't even know those virtual consoles existed.. but unfortunately it didn't help me out.
The problem is strictly not being able to see what's going on once i exit x. Once the computer restarts the monitor gets back a signal and can see lilo again. My guess is that the video drivers don't unload once i exit x.. i had to change xf86config4 in etc/x11 directory when I installed the drivers. But i followed the instructions exactly. Thanks for your quick reply |
Hmmm... so the problem is if you want to return to the normal prompt from X, not if you just want to shut down your machine, huh? Well, I can tell you that the virtual consoles wouldn't help unless you don't have X starting up immediately by default. Other than that, I'm afraid that you're out of my area of expertise at this point... I'm not exactly a Linux Guru:(. I just knew that I had had a similar experience... sorry, and good luck!

it had the same problem with blank screen at shutting down kde.
my first solution ;) take other desktop like i have enlightenment ;)) bad seems to be bad in some kinds of work;) what i did to solve the problem with kde: compiled a new kernel where i disabled the framebuffer acceleration and then it curiosly worked so far bye bolli |
