Increasing a Logical Volume over a new hard-drive - Possible?

Hey Guys,

The subject is pretty self-explanatory, but here's a bit of detail:

Im currently saving for a couple of 500Gb SATA drives and a RAID controller to create a NFS server running RAID level 1.

Because I just moved house it's gonna take me a while to save up the £400/£500 to buy the kit.

My new housemate has offered up a 160Gb IDE HD.
I'd like to install this disk and increase my already existing logical volume (mounted on /shared) to include this disk as a temporary measure.

Is this possible?
Could I lose data?
Is this something I would have to setup using the commandline or does it have a KDE interface?

Please help.
Thanks

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
