How to configure adapatec 29320

I donīt know how to configure the adaptec 29320.

I Canīt install any linux....

To install with Slackware, use the boot kernel adaptec.s, it should detect the drive and allow you to run cfdisk on /dev/sda... or whichever drive.

Basically, more information... what drives, how many, what distro have you tried, what problems are you having, etc...

Cheers,

Finegan

Re: How to configure adapatec 29320

The Linux kernel appears to have problem with this new SCSI card. When I use kernel 2.4.22-pre8, the situation is better. Therefore the only thing we can do is to wait for the official release of 2.4.22.

You are trying to install on one of the scsi drives and what happens when you boot adaptec.s, does it probe the scsi channel during boot?

It should look something like:

Code:

i91u: PCI Base=0xDC00, IRQ=11, BIOS=0xC8000, SCSI ID=7
i91u: Reset SCSI Bus ...
scsi0 : Initio INI-9X00U/UW SCSI device driver; Revision: 1.03g
  Vendor:          Model: CD-R/RW RW7060S  Rev: 1.30
Type:  CD-ROM                            ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Vendor: IBM      Model: DDRS-39130D      Rev: DC2A
Type:  Direct-Access                      ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Attached scsi disk sda at scsi0, channel 0, id 8, lun 0
SCSI device sda: 17850000 512-byte hdwr sectors (9139 MB)
 sda: sda1 sda2
Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0 at scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 24x/24x writer cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray

The driver on the adaptec page is the same as the one in the kernel, so its just a matter of getting a default kernel to load.

cmleungive,

I've seen this problem also with different adaptecs and 2.4.20, are you certain its the exact same card? Also, do you know if 2.4.21 works because Slackware has a precompiled series of those (to get around the ptrace bug).

Cheers,

Finegan

Then I proceed with the instalation

Thanks for the help.
