harddisk maintainance

Do we have any utilities for doing hard-disk maintainence like defrag and ,checking and marking bad blocks in Linux?

acid_kewpie 02-23-2003 04:57 AM

don't need to defrag (search this siet for other people asking) and fsck will check bad blocks etc.

if you have very heavy disk usage, a defrag may be useful. But in linux that translates to copy/ghost/etc. HD, format HD, and put everything back - when its rewritten it will put everything back where it belongs.

NOTE: this for really heavy disk usage (a production database, or something). Otherwise its a hassle and pointless.
