harddisk maintainance


Do we have any utilities for doing hard-disk maintainence like defrag and ,checking and marking bad blocks in Linux?

don't need to defrag (search this siet for other people asking) and fsck will check bad blocks etc.

if you have very heavy disk usage, a defrag may be useful. But in linux that translates to copy/ghost/etc. HD, format HD, and put everything back - when its rewritten it will put everything back where it belongs.

NOTE: this for really heavy disk usage (a production database, or something). Otherwise its a hassle and pointless.
