Epson Stylus C44+ doesn't print (no error message)

I've attached an Epson Stylus C44+ printer to my system (USB), set it up with CUPS, everything without problems, but now it doesn't print: everytime I send a print job, it is accepted, but the printer doesn't even move (nor make a sound). I get no error message (neither directly nor in /var/log/syslog or /var/log/messages).
My distribution: Debian Testing (but Knoppix 3.7 didn't work either).

I don't think it's the printer itself since it works on a Windows laptop.

I've searched with Google as well as in this forum, but couldn't find anything appropriate.

What am I doing wrong? Any help is appreciated.

Also I have the same problem, but with a C46 model! :(

For some reason, the printer has decided to react :) (don't ask me why, or what I did).
But now I have a new problem: when I try to print something, the printer eats all the paper in the slot without printing anything (it doesn't even try, it just spills out the paper). After it has done this, it enters the "Not enough paper" state (I have to switch it off and on again).

Strange enough, escputil -n works flawlessly. Any ideas?

Here is my printer.conf from /etc/cups:
