Emulate wheel-scrolling with logitech trackball

Hi guys,
I have just received a logitech trackball (T-BC21) and it all works fine out of the box except the wheel-scrolling emulation (the trackball doesn't have a wheel).
I had a good look around and came across a few sites. ON this https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lo...olling_Example it tells you what to do

The issue I have is as I said the fact that there is no hal folder, so after having created the file and pasted the content in it, is it safe for me to create the various folders that will ultimately contain the file hal/fdi/policy/?
thanks

Hi jazzo,

as etc only contains config files it is rather safe to create new directories and files within it.
