DVD recorder not recognised
I have just successfully installed Red Hat Enterprise 4 Update 4 (2.6.9-42.ELsmp). Unfortunately the Asus DVD recorder drive is not recognised. It is not listed in /etc/fstab, /media, /dev
Things I should make you aware of-: 1. To install the OS I had to type the following at the boot prompt linux all-generic-ide 2. The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 (Rev 1.0) with a Intel ICH8R southbridge and a Gigabyte SATA 2 controller (JMicron). 3. Relevant BIOS settings a) SATA Raid / AHCI is set to Disabled (Sets the onboard SATA controller to IDE mode). (Intel ICH8R controller only?) b) SATA Port0-3 Native Mode is set to Disabled (Legacy IDE mode) (Intel ICH8R controller only?) c) Onboard SATA/IDE Device - Enabled - This function allows users to enable or disable the SATA/IDE ports controlled by the Gigabyte SATA 2 controller d) Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode - IDE - Set the SATA channel to IDE mode (Gigabyte SATA 2 controller) 4. The DVD drive is connected to the single IDE connector available on the motherboard. 5. The drive works fine in Windows and I managed to install Linux fine using the drive. 6. I have installed all available updates using the Red Hat Update Agent. The current Kernel is 2.6.9-42.0.10.ELsmp. 7. A few guesses: I run Fedora, my dvd burner does not show up in fstab either (this is normal for my system). It also does not show up in media unless the disk is mounted(and formated?). The standard location for cd/dvd is hdc. I would throw a disk (known good and formated) into the drive and see. If it is still not happy, sometimes linux is picky about master versus cable select. If you have the drive on the slave plugin windows will usually still find it, but sometimes linux will not. Sometime linux will find it but still not work that way. |
