Linux It's funny too, because nvidia is the only company with propriatery drivers.... and yet they have the most stable of them all for video? AND legacy support? Interesting eh? |
drivers
where can i find the driver because i looked for hours and i think im going to just buy another graphics card so i dont have to deal with it.But if i can save 80 bucks or so ill take the driver, if i can find it.
So any ideas on opensourse drivers for the s9250 ati radeon card? |
Can't help on locating a driver bt can tell you this much.
I had used a very old pc with an ancient ati card with appropriate driver and switched it back to the vesa driver. Think ebay and nvidia. |
You can use your current video card with no problems but if you want 3D acceleration for those desktop effects then you need the fglrx driver.

Yes, but from what I've herd the open source drivers have been devoloped further than the fglrx for those series cards.
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=221242 Code:
I wanted to send out the word before 2.6.29 hits stable for Fedora 9/10 that the current versions of the ATI drivers (version 9.3 for R200-R550 and 9.4 for R600+) do not support kernel 2.6.29. Although a community patch is available, it has been reported to cause system instability on some cards and it can also potentially cause DoS because a log message problem. Because of these problems, RPM Fusion will not be able to update the kmods for 2.6.29 - if you have kmod-fglrx installed and you're having some problems with yum, please exclude kmod-fglrx from the system updates for now and stay with 2.6.27. |

fglrx-modules-2.6.30-1-686 If you do, then our OP (Ubuntu use) may be in luck. If it's there in the debian repos then I imagine it's there in the Ubuntu ones as well. I'll have to try it one of these days. I last updated the ATI driver in April of this year. When I move from 2.6.26 to 2.6.30 that will give me an excuse to try it out. cheers, jdk |
drivers

You might try a search, first on LQ and if there's nothing then using google for Radeon S9250 driver
You may be able to find out what driver you should be using. If it's fglrx then just install the Ubuntu package and load that module. cheers, jdk |
