root password is lost!!! :(
 
Just read this strange problem.. A friend of mine lost his root password..... so i told him ro enter run level 1 and change it.... but then i learned that his linux dont have a boot loader... so how can my friend reset his root password... Plz give me brief explanations about that

As a basic principle, this should not be a possibility.
I would recommend blowing the installation away after moving the data to a secure place.

Boot with Knoppix cd, mount the root partition of the system, chroot to it, change password.

It has one, but the boot delay is set to 0 so the bootloader menu is not displayed.

Having a boot cd, boot floppy, usb key, or some other method of accessing the system when problems arise is most likely the first rule of system administration. Or at least second after "make backups".

Just yesterday my Debian boot floppies saved my rear when I messed up my file server.

Recovery Is Possible (R.I.P.) and tomsrtbt are two useful recovery systems that fit on floppies. I carry them or a live cd whenever I know I'll be working with computers.
