Opinion: What do you think is better?
 

Hey all. I'm just curious about what everyone's favorite filesystem is: ext2, ext3, reiserfs,.... whichever is your fav!

Personally I use the oldschool ext2 fs, but I might repartition with ext3 and reinstall. Actually, scratch that, I've heard some good things about reiserfs, maybe I should check that out too! Besides, I like the idea of upgrading the filesystem tree without reformatting the disk.

One vote for ReiserFS. Why? Well, it has always worked well for me and I don't see any reason to use something else. I haven't tried v4 yet but someday!

I think they all do the job the same but in different ways.. I pick ext3 cause well, most choose it by default during install and I'm lazy. As long as it has journaling, it works for me, I'm not picky.. ;)

You know you can convert ext2 to ext3 without re-installing?

I'm w/ trickykid. If the default setting for the file system works, then I go for that one.

You can? That's alright, I just wiped my Windows partition (kind of similar to wiping my ass, since they both deal with crap ;) ) I installed Reiser FS on both of my hardrives and it seems to be working great!

another vote for ReiserFS by me, reason: ext2/3 corrupted (it was during a install (one of the first distros i tried, didn't really lose anything, but it was annoying), so i kind of hate ext2/3 a lot now, ReiserFS has never failed me tho.

with version 4, it pretty much has every file system beat i think, even ntfs.

I go with reiserfs, as it is the default for both Slack and Suse -- J.W.

Personally though, the only advantage to using reiserfs to me is that it handles larger directories better and keeps the smaller files smaller on the filesystem. With hard disk space these days being very cheap, you can use either and probably not find much advantages and disadvantages.

And I don't see Slackware having Reiser as the default, Pat just made it so it starts at the bottom of the selections of the 3.. ext2, ext3 and reiserfs... ;)

Using JFS on all my partitions now.
It performs well in all kinds of file operations (though it doesn't shine on any) and is even faster than reiserfs with large dirs (at least with my hw) ++ its not as loud :D

Give it a try, you might like it :)
