RTCW crash!

Hi all!!!

I have RedHat 9 with ATI Radeon 9500 Pro with the latest drivers from schneider web page.

When i run the game, everything is fine (faster than windows ;) ), but suddenly all the system hangs and i have to reboot the machine via reset button.

It is really anoying this because you don't know when it will happen, and i don't want to boot win for playing the game for a while....

Thanks for help

That's bad. Are you running RTCW natively or through winex? Because I finished that game (and I'm proud of it... it has been years since I last finished a game...ghehe) and the hole game runs perfectly with WineX3 without a single problem.
If you are also using WineX, so it could be a problem with your graphic drivers. If you are running natively with a Linux installer, try to get another installer :)

i had a problem when i had a radeon 7500 that anything that used the quake3 engine (including rtcw) would freeze after 30 secs. it turned out after upgrading to a radeon 9000 made it work.

turn the game settings down a bunch, my 8500 used to freeze on enemy territory when i would look at an area where it had a lot to render.

You must set 'r_compiled_vertx_array' to 0 in order for the game to run smooth with your card (it's currently a driver issue that it's supposedly taken care of in the 3.2.x series)

wow, in wich file is that r_compiled_array entry??? I've been looking for it, but i didn't find it!

Thetargos 10-12-2003 04:17 PM

It is an argument you either pass it to the program at launch:
Code:

wolf-sp +set r_compiled_vertex_array 0
or from within the console in-game.
