I've seen ThizLinux pre-installed labtops from NEC. But never used it before.

I got a Thiz Linux 6.0 CD with my laptop. I used it once to get a config-file for X. It looked like an old version of RedHat.

I have used Thiz Linux for almost a year now. I have had a pretty good experience. It installed with zero problems, I have updated it with their built in updater, and have installed additional programs. Based on Hong Kong and I have had fine English support and documentation after registering at their site.

Fry's is selling it along with their low priced PC's. In fact the only PC they sell with Linux on it.

I wasn't too Happy with Thiz-Linux

Wow Jody,

I've had the oppostie experience with Thiz-Linux customer support department, part of that problem was the time delay in responding back and poor customer support service. i.e. by email, who can afford to call Hong Kong right? Maybe some of it was the language barrier.

Anyway, I had an issue just trying to figure out how to set up the dialing properties. i.e. Thiz-Dial-up program. Thiz Customer support finally helped me after about a week of trouble shooting.

I had so much problems doing so (connecting with Thiz-Dial-up), I finally figured it out my own easier way to dial-up, because no one knew how to do it. I used my KPPP settings instead. It took me a week to figure it out and I even went back to the store I purchased it from and no one there knew how to connect to the internet.

I had problems installing other programs on my Thiz-Linux. Once I untarred the program, I never could figure out how to install the program, and I spent weeks trying to do it.

Maybe you can provide some additonal information on what you like about it and what you can and cannot install.

Thanks d-1

Trying to be Happy with Thiz-Linux

I am back posting on a Thiz-Linux operating system and I tried to get back onto their registered list and was unable to do. I have sent them at least 7 emails within the last week and they have failed to respond. I'm a straight shooter and I try not to leave out the blanks. I wish they would respond sooner than they do, but in all fairness, I do not know the volume of emails or calls they may take, moreover, how many can interpret the English.

I do know that their government basically endorses the product, so they will have the funding and they should be a player in the community.

It is the 7.0 version and I was able to triple boot with it, I also have windows 98 and windows xp.

Any chance we can open up a discussion group on them on this board? I'd be willing to be the moderator, with the help of someone else on this board?

Thanks d-1

I've been looking around for a Thizlinux thread...

I have a fairly recent distribution (frybox) and have been using it for a couple
months...now I need to do some real work and I can find no gcc package
installed or on the distribution...I am also finding it hard to track down
a package off gcc binaries for linux!!?!?...well, I can't build anything now,
so I need binaries can someone point me at a download site?

Re: gcc on Thizlinux

Try going to Thiz-Linux Tech support, they usually reply, but it takes a few days normally.

Thiz Linux user, no replies

Interesting, no replies on Thiz Linux. I recently cracked out that old 2003 Thiz-Linux Installation cd and remarkably, it is labeled version 7.0a version, their newer version is still 7.0.

Anyway I loaded it (older version) up on VMware and I had a terrible time getting the Xconfigurator 4.10.7 (Red Hat version) to probe and configure my Monitor and the graphics. Everything I tried failed. I finally gave up.

I did go to there website and downloaded their 2 CD Thiz-linux version and it loads just fine in VMware, but when you reboot it, it says its a trial version and that you must reinstall it. (a waste of time)

If anyone else has luck installing Thiz-Linux older version on VMware, please post......

I am looking for the disk variation located above to get linux drivers for the ECS DeskNote A928 machine. I have a picture of the disc. Would you still have this disk? Thanks.

I believe I may, but would have to look.

This is an old post.

That's okay, never mind, I did find one online. I listed the desknote for sale on ebay and thought a linux disk would help. Thanks for responding.

dolphans1 03-13-2012 05:01 PM

No problem, do you have Thiz-Linux installed on it?
