Burn the iso image to a CD or DVD. This is not the same as burning an audio, video, or data. There should be a specific option for burning an image. Now put that CD or DVD in your drive, reboot the computer and follow the directions. Make sure your BIOS is set to boot from CD before the hard drive.

The "rw" does not show up until replying!!

Yes--CD-R or CD-RW

(I personally do not recommend RW----CD-R is cheap and I think they last longer)

Hi,
Ditto to the instruction above. It might be worth mentioning that you need a special program to burn an iso file. I have heard that Nero has that option. On windows I use a program I downloaded from the Linux Puppy website for free. It works well to burn iso images. I can't remember the exact name of it. I am on a Linux partition and not windows, so I can't see it without rebooting. If you have trouble locating it I will come back with the website and exact name of the program. It is something like CCCDBURN or something like that. If you google for Linux Puppy and go to their main website you should be able to look around and find it.

I hate to hog up the forum, but in the original post, posting two in a row, but you said you were installing Ubuntu. Ubuntu will ship a free CD to you if you go to their website and request it. I believe they call the program "ship it." Good luck.

Hmmmmm....any CD burner I have ever used has an option to burn from iso....

To the original question: If you have an image file (.iso) for a CD, then burn it to CD-R or CD-RW.

Short way:

- download the image file; if you plan to use CD, download cd image (size 650-700MB) or if you plan to use DVD, download dvd image (size a couple of gigabytes)
- when picking up the download, take the x86_64 version for 64-bit system if you want, or else take the 32-bit version (or the one where it's not mentioned, it's 32-bit)
- download the image file to a location you can find
- use google to search and download a program called imgburn. It's the best image burning software there is for Windows: it's free, it's small, it's got everything you need. It even burns, if needed, CD images to a DVD without asking stupid questions :) it's way faster to install and use than Nero or anything else.
- use imgburn: put cd in tray, open the (image) file using imgburn and click the button to start burning
- take a cup of coffee if you like, size of cup depends on the speed of your burner
- once it's ready, reboot with the cd in tray
- make sure your machine does boot from cd before hd
- follow instructions on screen (once the desktop is up, click Install)

Gundumfx;

You will get better help if you break up your posts into simple, short sentences with correct punctuation, etc.
