I picked Linux, but it's probably Unix of some sort. I thought it was interesting to note that "The Source" was considered to be the one in control and Neo was an anomaly in the programs.

I'm the only one that picked Novell? Trust me, I've seen a Novell console with lots of jibberish scrolling up and down.
Seriosuly though - I do hope that Novell make a good job with SuSE. |

The fact the machines couldn't defeat Smith sort of made sense. He became a virus, hence that gibberish speech he gave in the first film (at the time I thought locusts would be a better analogue for human behaviour). Having source code won't prevent viral infection, the AIs would have had to wipe the hardware he was executing on, i.e. the brains of all humans in the Matrix. But without a mind, the body dies. >> faster? -- Yes, but not as manuverable But.. they can fly! And.. they have tentacles (attack 8 people at once)! Not to mention.. laser beams! >>more numerous? in 2nd movie it was an equal ratio of man to machine I thought that was just the invasion force. I didn't really pay attention after the first film. I had the impression they had overrun the planet. (<bender>Well, we can always build more kill-bots!</bender>) >> better organised? -- humans had to be very organized to make zion Good point. I'd assumed the AIs would have a natural advantage in this respect. Sorry about wasting space with this post, but these films really annoyed me by being so rubbish. I'll shut up now. |

It is run on Windows. How else would the Agent Smith virus be able to spread like that?

Humm.. that's a pretty good point. :)

LOL yeah it is. :D

When you said the Matrix, I thought of the CIA's huge database to control our privacy. I hope they don't use linux for it.

I put a vote in for DOS.
Ive seen enough movies with crappy plotlines to know this is how it would be. It makes too much sense for it to be running a cabable and stable operating system like linux. Lets just pretend matrix was a 10 hour long Zzzz marathon that told the story from beginning to end with excruciatinly painfull detail. Answering all those quesitons you had in your head, and many you never thought of or dont care about. Eventually it would get into where the matrix servers were and what they were running. Movies never have anything logical about them. Most of them leave me walking out of the movie at the end with a big WTF!? on my mind. Neo and morpheus would start rambling on about something, and the topic of the matrix servers would come up. It would be running a very sensitive and tipsy os like DOS. Something that would make absolutley no sense to run the matrix on. The plan would be to cut a loud fart next to the servers (Most likley a few thousand XT's networked together with LapLink) to cause some kind of ramdom dos error. And of course with poor error handing, would just hang up. The end. :D |
Gnu Minix (doesn't exist yet) microkernel architecture is fit for a big super computer.

the Matrix is definetly an upgraded Microsoft BOB. how else would it look and feel so real?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Bob http://www.windowsbeta.net/screen/bob/ besides, they have agents already programmed in it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Agent |
From what I have seen, "the matrix" is just a fancy entertainment system, designed to take your mind off the outside world by using advanced virtual reality features and clever marketing. I vote Nintendo.

I thought it was the unreleased GoogleOS... Charred, can I have a tinfoil hat? :p
