(I hesitate to recommend Arch because it's not exactly a "GUI-user-friendly" distro, and I'm assuming that's what you mean by "simplistic style" :p) |

But there is a KDE install disc, and a Lxde/Xfce install disc. So even if you dont want to manually set what packages are to be installed, you can still have any of the major DEs. |
When I need a good laugh to translate a song to the language and then translate them back.
One morning the sun shone I was lying in bed Wond'ring if she has changed everything If the hair is still red Her people said our lives together Of course, had to be rough I never liked to dress home mom Bankbook Papa was not large enough, I stood at the roadside Rain boots Hitting on the east coast Lord knows he paid some fees to reach Tangled up in blue. She married when we first meet Soon divorced I helped her with the jam I think But I used too much force We drove the car if we could He left her in the West, Divide it in a dark sad night Both agreeing that the best She turned and looked at me As already leaving I heard her voice on my shoulder "We'll meet again sometime in the street" Tangled up in blue. I had a job in the big woods to the north Working as a cook spell But I never liked it so much And one day the ax just fell So, drifted down to New Orleans If I happened to use Working for a while on a fishing boat Just before Delacroix But the whole time I was alone The past was just behind I have seen many women But he never escaped my mind and I just grew Tangled up in blue. She worked in a topless place I stopped for a beer And so I looked at her side of the face In the spotlight so clear And later, the crowd thinned out And just about the same Standing there on the back of a chair He said to me: "I do not know your name?" I muttered something under my breath Studied the lines on my face I must admit I felt a little uncomfortable When I bent down to tie the laces of my shoes Tangled up in blue. She lit a burner on the stove and offered me a pipe "I never say hello," she said "You look like a silent type" Then I opened a book of poems And he handed me Written by an Italian poet From the thirteenth century And each of them words rang true And glowed like burning coal Pouring in from all sides As it was written in my soul from me to you Tangled up in blue I lived with them on Montague Street In the basement down the stairs There was music in the cafes, and night And revolution in the air Then he started dealing with slaves And something in him died She had to sell everything she owned I froze inside And when finally the bottom fell out I happened to withdraw The only thing I knew how to do it Was to keep on keeping on like a bird that flew Tangled up in blue. So now I'm going again I've got it somehow All people, knew It's an illusion to me now Some are mathematicians Some are carpenter's wives I do not know how it all began I do not what they do with your life But I'm still on the road Heading for another joint I always felt the same I just saw it from another point of view Tangled in Blue. |

Being a poor system admin :D, I use a C2D laptop at home for multimedia plus some minor office tasks including tinkering with multiple virtual machines - RH and Solaris based. They are related to work. Latest Suse I used was 11.4, shame that in the CD version it didn't even include kernel headers plus gcc to compile my Vmware player plus my Broadcom wireless still sucks by default on it. So I chucked it. Must say the KDE integration was best in days I see. gnome one was crap. I have a poor internet connection so couldn't afford 4+GB DVD version download. I'm exactly in the same boat as yours, I've been using LMDE-Gnome plus Salix-xfce since 7 months now. But now I got an idea, I chucked everything and installed LMDE-xfce edition. Man, the battery life is 30mins plus now with all the previous regular tasks. And it has got some of the productivity apps by default. |
Well guys, I am about to burn the OpenSuse dvd and try it out. After looking in between this forum, and online reviews, it looks like a close variant to fedora. I will definitely be reporting back.... Oh yeah, Fedora 15 sucks.
And also, another update - My boy is home! He is currently passed out asleep right next to me, just hanging out. Can't wait to teach him about linux ;) |

The more you want that, the more likely the kid will end up being a microsoft/apple user LOL. |
Yeah, both are rpm based. And I keep using OpenSuse because I'm very used to of rpm command line tools. Yum can still wait.
OpenSuse is a balance of stability plus bling bling on top of rpm. Good luck. And oh yeah, forgot to congratulate for your Boy, cigar time for you. And I hope he will do good from now on with health :) |
I rarely lurk this thread so wasn't aware...
Congrats Josh, for the baby. Time to marry, don't ye think so? :D BTW, thought of LQ username for the baby? P.S. It'll be nice to see picture of the baby in his father's arms. ;) |
