FlightGear I am familiar with. But it does not match my requirements as far as the level of cockpit management is concerned.

Perhaps I could try WINE, I'm not sure, though.

WINE may work, but you can't tell 100% if it's going to work unless you try it, and then some parts of an app may work and others not.
If you have access to a windows CD, then VMware is a good solution. Just run windows under linux when you need it.

Well we will see. I rescued a computer that a friend was getting rid of that had XP and lots of viruses, so I deleted the OS and first installed Xandros. I liked the feeling. Then I installed Fedora after having a few printing problems. I know that Linux is still growing, but I would say that I am looking for independence and like the idea of a OS developed by community rather than money hungry billionaires.

I love the screens, how fast it picked up my net, and I am just waiting for more patiently.

My wife use to complain cause my default boot menu was Linux. So she had to wait and choose Windows. This of course was way too much work! As the years progress I now have the family fighting for who gets access to my (linux) computer.

My womans got her own laptop now. With Windows.
And I've got my laptop. With Suse 10.1. Windows will never be an alternative for me.

I'm happy. She's happy.

Remeber windows has grabbed the consumer market share by being multimedia friendly.

Despite having worked on Windows based enterprise system, I find linux to be a strong competitor in future and would be tough to accomodate a job without basic knowledge of it.

I see an ever growing competition from linux especially with all those though anti piracy measures of microsoft plus very poor performance of Windows server. I reckon in future Linux will highly mature and used in a lot of network segments with roles of windows server reduced to ACtive directory only..

Usually Linux performs well even with age old hardware often unsuitable under windows for hosting essential services like DNS, DHCP, FTP etc etc etc..

And the increasing accecptance of linux is the solid reason why i am here desperately trying to gain a skillset..

Mind you i have been an aggresive linux basher in past but seems like every one makes mistakes..and to judge something it has to be tried first..

I use windows for all my desktop needs because it is indespensible. Nothing working so integrated with load of documents, images, multimedia etc etc etc.. where as linux for all server needs..

recently finished my first linux web cache server. I took me 3 days worth of learning to be able to do it.

with a bit of common sense, memory and intelligence applied, learning linux isnt that hard.

Dictator tactics work well to speed up linux learning. Install it as an only OS and forget about any other choice. Consider you dont have a choice regarless.. :D

I love working with XP but now I tested SUSE 10.1 it's not bad and a little for people who like the "visualization" during the work (if U know what I mean).
It harmony with my 2003 Server and my other XP Workstation.
Now its time to make a change, I guess.

nowadays its hard to find someone who wont have a chance to be seduced by the windows world during their life-time unless they came from a family of inventors of printer and calculator and the likes ... so "choices" are practically everywhere , normally outside of the family ... its a kind of dictatorship too , probably the actual one ...

Can Finale 20001b notation software be run on Kubuntu somebody mentioned wine or is there another notation software suitable for linux or would I be better to forget about it anybody out there able to help

I've been talking to some businesses that are now focused soley on Linux for their environment. I think it's probably difficult as organizations get larger because the applications may be the limiting factor - i.e. linux based company but they have an application they need that runs solely on Windows for some reason. I think this is more common in Europe than in the US

I just got Ultima Online and Everquest working, fiddling with World of Warcraft now but even if that doesn't work, two out of three isn't a bad score. I've always though Linux was better for everything except games and now I can honestly say I have no thoughts of returning to windows ever again. I'm a bit of a MMORPG addict and the final hurdle has just been cleared for removing the word "microsoft" from my side of the house completly.

My wife is in Online classes and the software is windows only and we don't want to risk it by setting her up with Linux. She is, however, getting a new computer soon and it won't have windows on it. So Our lovely nieghbors over in Redmond will soon be relegated to an old clunker of a computer sitting in the corner of the room that is used only for her school.

I'd had problems with WINE completly crashing my system before but that was some time ago, it seems that whatever problems it had have been ironed out and I'm set to do everything I did before nearly 100% problem free. The loading messages don't go away on thier own, but a quick ctrl+alt+esc for them gets rid of the annoying little box and my games still run like a charm.

AmaroK is much better for managing my iPod than iTunes ever was (Of course all my music comes from CDs so I never used the store), Open Office beats MS Office for me, Gimp is great, opera is my favorite browser, MPlayer for watching movies and playing plug-in content online, Kopete as my IM program, Konversation or XChat for IRC and Kontact does everything I need for my e-mail/scedule/address book/rss needs.

I'm very happy with Linux and it is serving all of both my needs and wants very well.

I am thinking of that as well. I am sick of having so many probs with Microsoft and waiting till my friend could come over and re-install the disks because he had them.

All I need is to havemy DXG 305v camera to be set up. If not, will use on other machine and just get a new camera.
