Who should be dictator of the world? Vote now and win a free PS3!!

damgar 03-14-2010 01:00 PM

Pat V. seems to handle total control rather well and doesn't seem (from what I know) as militant as Stahlman. I like my dictators a little laid-back and with a sense of humor.

Do we really get a free PS3 for voting?

(not that I really need one, and I'm pretty sure it's a joke, but I'm just curious, y'know ;))

brianL 03-14-2010 05:08 PM

The obvious choice: brianL
He's wise, witty, charming, and ever so modest.

GrapefruiTgirl 03-14-2010 07:05 PM

When do I get my PS3?

BTW, what is a PS3?

sycamorex 03-14-2010 07:23 PM

I hope it's not going to be Playstation 3 Slim - you can't install linux on it.
So how shall I give you my postal address so that you could send it to me?

minrich 03-14-2010 07:26 PM

Why isn't jeremy on the list? FYI, I voted for 'other', sorry brianL, it was just a slip of my 'any' key, which is right next to my "Don't Panic" key.

Funny, I would have put Mother Teresa on the list as one of the worst people in modern history.

I think Christopher Hitchens said it best, ""Mother Theresa spent her whole life saying (that what Calcutta needs) is a huge campaign against family planning. I mean, who comes to that conclusion who isn't a complete fanatic? She took - and I would directly say stole...millions and millions of dollars and spent all the money not on the poor, but on the building of nearly 200 convents in her own name around the world to glorify herself and to continue to spread the doctrine that, as she put it -- when she got her absurd Nobel Peace Prize -- that the main threat to world peace is abortion and contraception."

Eh, I wouldn't bother, even if it were a regular PS3. You don't get access to all the power of the hardware if you install Linux on it. IIRC it's because of some stupid patent issue

Anyways, I'd say: GLaDOS. She has a wonderful(ly awful, depending on how you look at it) sense of humor. Just don't forget the morality core! ;)

(oh yeah, and don't forget to make sure the red emergency phone can't get disconnected :D)

You do have a point there... Although fanatic, and somewhat irrational in her statement

Quote:

that the main threat to world peace is abortion and contraception."

She was a tender and caring person that helped the homeless, and starving in India...

If she would be World Dictator, the world would be a better place than if Ishii Shiro was world Dictator...

That creature, creator of Unit 731 in Harbin, China IS by no means comparable to Mother Teresa...

This is why I voted him to Enemy of Mankind N 1, worst person EVER..

As a Japanese, I still feel ashamed that Shiro was born in Japan, I still feel small and miserable everytime I look into the eyes of a person from China :( , and I have great friends from China and Korea...

...yet I would be very proud if Mother Teresa was Japanese... despite the fact that she might have a political agenda, lots of ppl found comfort, happiness and mitigation from their suffering with her action... wouldn't y agree...?

No, I wouldn't. Ok, realistically, she is of course not on par with some of the worst people in history, but she was no saint.

1. She supported the suspension of democracy and civil rights in India in 1975.

2. Her opposition to birth control and especially the use of condoms means she bears at least some responsibility for the AIDS epidemic in Africa and the suffering of millions. If she actually cared about their well-being, she could have used her influence and money to actually help the world in that regard.

3. Her medical clinics were sub-standard, as reported by the Lancet and the British Medical Journal. By neglecting standards of care, she contributed to the death and suffering of who knows how many people.

Actions speak louder than words. She might have preached love and tolerance, but she did not put those words into practice. She tolerated dictators, she held the rich to a different standard the poor (famously condemning divorce, except in the case of Princess Diana), and she spent millions building convents and working to convert hindus to christianity, rather than working to actually help raise their quality of life.

An interesting essay: http://www.indiastar.com/DhiruShah.htm

Hey I didn't know that about mother Teresa. I'm not a fan of abortion. But I think we should have started air dropping crates of condoms on the 3rd world years ago. I hate it when people are against abortion AND condoms. Just pick one.

I think that I would make a great dictator. The first thing I would do is to line up a row of Guillotine's next to George Washington's Federal Hall statue across the street from the New York Stock Exchange.

Every day people the world over could place bets and watch the " Head Races " on television and You Tube. There would be criminals, politicians, and Wall Street crooks placed in the stocks; when the blades came down the heads would roll down the steps. The head that rolls the farthest wins.

What a grand spectacle that would be!! You Betcha!!

MrCode 03-23-2010 11:56 PM

Hey, I thought this thread was dead! :p

Anyways, I noticed that the "Other" choice is so far the most popular. The selection of other choices must really suck, then, LOL.

Although RMS is in 2nd, so...

I've only just read it, and replied. Thanks, I'll give it a try. You might need someone with more knowledge of Linux & computers in general than I have, as the other Mod.
