Congress votes to make open government data the default in the United States

Quote:

On December 21, 2018, the United States House of Representatives voted to enact H.R. 4174, the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act of 2017, in a historic win for open government in the United States of America.

Thank you ChuangTzu for bringing this to our/my attention. I now need to look more deeply into this because I am a bit concerned that it may establish a legal precedent that "privacy and security" are higher up on the hierarchy than openness and access to information. It sounds good on the surface but it could be in effect an "Orwellian gift-wrapped time bomb". This bears scrutiny.

ChuangTzu,

We appreciate your bringing this to our attention along with the related information in your second post.

On the surface it sounds like a good idea.

Keep us informed if you have a mind too.
