Ok, i've got to admit, i'm actually a fan of the tile interface, ever since Windows phone7. It is Windows though, and i prefer the way Gnu/Linux works so i will still continue to use Gnu/Linux regardless.

Hope you enjoy.

Good grief, that is ugly! I am glad I do not use Windows.

This is the Windows 8 properties.

It is fully working, IE 10 is nice, I copy all my popular bookmarks there and using it.

I am back to Windows. :D

As long as the consumer preview works or do you really intend to buy that?
Regarding the tiles, that may be convenient on a phone or may be a tablet, but I couldn't stand that on a desktop PC with 27" monitor.

future_computer 10-07-2012 11:10 AM

Windows Defender is default. but I disabled it.
I use others.

Is the OP TigerLinux? or is it just a coincidence that the posting style is nearly exactly the same?

I have tried to see any use for Windows 8. It is way too cumbersome for my liking. MS needs to create a more Windows 7 version if they want corporate users to buy this.

You have however, hit the nail on the head with your statement about it's looks. Many people who are not technical judge an OS by it's looks.

Internet Explore is there
where is the EU REQUIRED "choice"???
i do not see a "Firefox" or "opera" or "Chrome" link ??????
-- oh wait there is a Google chrome off to the far right ---

i think that MS is about to( or already HAS) run afoul of the EU anti trust and be fined 1+ Billion

on a personal note
if i had to look at that "metro" menu EVERY DAY , day in and day out
i just might end up doing something "bonkers"

TobiSGD 10-07-2012 10:25 PM

The EU required choice comes (at least for previous Windows versions, don't know about 8) in a small application that runs after the installation and offers you Firefox, Chrome and Opera (IIRC) for installing as standard browser. You won't get any browser pre-installed.

As I said in another thread: it looks like it was designed by and for 5 year olds.

future_computer 10-08-2012 09:17 AM

Windows 8 has my surprise, it is faster in booting up and shutting down too.
I just like the metro. :D
Very new experience.
Better than MAC OS X.

Hi,

@future_computer
Maybe from your perspective. I happen to have Apple equipment and do find it useful. I also use Microsoft since my clients require the support. My preference is Slackware!

These are OS and not a religion to me. But provide the means for monetary support. :)

Comparing boots, not something I care about since most times my machines are up & running thus no reboot. :hattip:

isnt one of the main selling points of windows-8 is that it has a fallback mode to windows-7... kinda' like how when windows-vista came out they marketed that the supreme enterprise edition had a windows-xp fallback mode.

Not really. It has a desktop mode, where it look somewhat like older versions, but for some unknown reason Microsoft thought it would be a good thing to remove the Start-menu.
