What did you think of Dames 1934?

Those were different times. Today's entertainment was yet future.

Superhet radio was yet future. If a family owned a radio, it had 4 knobs.
  • sensitivity
  • frequency
  • 2 filter/amplifier stages, the second of which demodulated the signal.
That list varied of course.

On any evening, The aerial might be adjusted, and a two hour chase would begin trying to land a station and make it audible. Earphones were common; a speaker required another valve. Or if you went out and paid out hard-earned cash to go to the cinema, you weren't hugely fussy about what was on. For big events, more local radio stations relayed them. A common route to the States for Ireland was Ireland ==> Iceland ==> Greenland ==> Canada ==> U.S.

Dames seems like fairly harmless nonsense, except that it's ridden with the political, racial & sexual prejudices which bedevil America still. Disney was always poor that way. I'd tire of it inside 20 minutes, in all likelihood.

I think the trailer says it's got 250 "females" in it, especially towards the end.

Some of the 1930s films, like Female, show people being commanded by a leader, an idea derived from the militarism of WW1, and which developed into fascist governments. WW2 and the economic success of Western democracies demonstrated that fascism is a bad idea, as it does not allow "speaking truth to power" and diversity and hence cannot adapt, repair, error-correct, improve, innovate, etc etc.

I can't imagine the 250 of today's females all obeying one man. Maybe in Iran?

Most forms of power or rulership require far-sighted wisdom, and the complete set of Christian Qualities for good rulership.

A lot of films seem to depict fascism, for example the extra-judicial killings of James Bond, and the coercions of crime horror and western movies.
