probe_partition_for_geom() failed proglem in fc3?
Hi to all,
this is Raju. First I've installed Windows 2000 Professional. Now I am attempting to install Fedora Core 3 on a dual boot machine, it is giving the following bugs The first Bug stated this: Assertion (heads>0) at dis_dos.c:485 in function probe_partition_for_geom() failed. The second Bug stated this: Assertion (sectors<63) at disk_dos.c:490 in function probe_partition_for_geom() failed. Can anyone offer any advice as to why I'm getting these 2 bugs? and how can i remove the error. Please help me out . Thanks to all. Raju. |
Your problem is likely related to a bug in the Anaconda installer, which is used to install RedHat/Fedora.
The FC3 “Assertion...function probe_partition_for_geom() failed” problem is usually “fixed” by downloading an update for the installer and then either transferring the update image to a floppy for use during a CD-based installation or transferring the update image to the NFS folder containing the CD iso images used for NFS-based installations (i.e., boot: linux askmethod). One of the early Buzilla reports on this problem is here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla....cgi?id=138419 (see comments 2 and 62). I once explained how to use the update image in detail in post #4 here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=314612 The link for downloading rawrite.exe is dead, but Googling “rawrite.exe download” gives several sites you can download it from, the first of which was: http://www.tavi.co.uk/os2pages/rawrite.html Or you can go directly to the download here: http://www.tavi.co.uk/os2pages/utils/rawrite.zip |
