Fedora/linux newbie! need some help

hey guys..
I just installed Fedora Core 3 on a dual boot one HDD Intel system. I cut my 40 GB hdd into the windows partition (23 GB) a swap partition (1 GB) and the new Linux Partition (14 GB). i have some issues

1. I cant access my windows partition from Linux cos i have all my docs and music and stuff there.. like when i try to access it from my computer in linux it says that the drive is already mounted. ARGGHH.. the linux partition is Ext3 and the Windows is NTFS

2. Im trying to install the yum.conf file that i got from the unofficial fedora faq to the /etc directory but i cant move it.. not in konqueror OR using the terminal.. with root privileges. can someone tell me the proper command to move a file thats in /home/minimumturbulence/Desktop/yum.conf to the /etc directory. the Terminal gives me the message "missing file argument" and konqueror says that access is denied to the /etc folder. is there some way to enable root privileges in konq. instead of doing it through the terminal? Im installing this yum.conf file because i want to get my flash, java, and mp3 capabilities installed.

3. I have a wireless card (Belkin FSD7000) that doesnt work with fedora or at least it doesnt detect a IP/DNS with it.. so im running a hard connection right now. i think i have to install NDISWRAPPER.. can someone tell me how to do that?

sorry if its too newb.. i really want to get accquainted with linux and the kernel and move off of windows.. so yea.. any help is much appreciated

Regarding NTFS support, FC3 does not natively support NTFS access. You can mount the NTFS partition, but will not be able to access it.

Install the kernel-module-ntfs-2.6....rpm corresponding to your kernel from http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/3/i386/RPMS.stable/ and you should be able to read the NTFS files.

What a lot of people do to share files between the WinNTs and linux is to create an FAT32 partition for sharing, which both can read natively.

I did almost the same thing that you did minimumturbulen.

if you go to www.linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net there is a really easy step by step for getting ntfs working on linux

another thing that you want to be sure to do is install a newer version of xmms. the one that comes packaged with fedora will not play mp3s, licensing issues. So what I always do for a new fedora box that I've built is just install the latest stable package from www.xmms.org from source, it installs right over the fedora xmms and does a really nice job of keeping all my stuff organized.

Another thing that I've always found better than having multiple operating systems on one hard drive is to split them up physically, different drives. It just makes it easier and actually improves the seek times of the drives just a little bit.

to get knoqueror to run with root privileges you just need to be root then run konqueror. just pull up a terminal, su to root, and type /usr/bin/konqueror

When i was a noob "bout 3 years ago" Debian was a pain to install and use for everything. It hasn't changed much over the years. They always stay way behind the technology curve so they run very stable which may or may not be desierable. I keep trying a bunch of other distributions and always come back to fedora for the stability, ease of use, ease of install, etc...
