Happy holidays! According to Kodi website you need to enable "backports" repository to install Kodi in Debian Jessie. Here are instructions to do that:

For the 'release file' error, you can try using a different mirror. Here is a list of Debian mirrors: https://www.debian.org/mirror/list

hi snowpine. thank you for your reply. i already added
deb http://http.debian.net/debian jessie-backports main

to the sources.list and it still gives me the error. I will try changing the mirror now

just for the record, i had 2 versions of the columbia mirror in the sources.list
i managed to update jessie and also download kodi. thank you for your help. im sorry it was user error.

Glad to hear it's fixed. p.s. feel free to mark as '[SOLVED]' (ThreadTools at top). Best wishes!
