I know it is early to write this topic but i am very curious to know. what do u feel now on ur Debian 6? did any body tried debian 6 BSD kernel? i use now ubuntu but i want to try Debian but due to internet connection problem , i will wait for it so i want to know other ideas hope to see ur replies and ideas. |
OI! Debian like Debian,nothing special.
I downloaded the kfreeBSD and installed it on my laptop (compaq 615 amd X2). So you have BSD with Debian installer,Debian desktop. In work it feels Debian. It`s good but the only thing thad didn`t work for me was sound.I colud`t get sound to work! But every thing else worked just fine. |
one of things I noticed is that krusader cannot unmount usb flash drive..
that 'feature' has been in Debian testing for months, good to see stable is catching up :P |

yes, I'm sure its in Krusader. it complains something about 'hal'. only way it would "unmount" is to use saferemoval from icon on gnome desktop. mind you, it hasn't been always like that. couple months ago some update introduced 'safe removal' concept to linux and broke unmount. |
Weird.
I have this entry in /etc/fstab: Code:
/dev/sdb1 /mnt/memstick vfat rw,user,noauto,gid=users,fmask=002 0 0 Version 2.2.0-beta1 "DeKade" Using KDE Development Platform 4.4.5 (KDE 4.4.5) jlinkels |
I don't have fstab entry for usb. It automounts in /media
Installer didn't make any. Have to admit there are some very nice things about Debian. One of our servers is down so I started damnsmalllinux on Pentium3 with 128Mb memory. (not enough ram for puppy). We needed to run some specialized software on it. It was compiled in Debian and run there with no problems. But I was surprised when binary elfs just worked after copying from Debian to DSL. There was no need to recompile or anything. (even though DSL uses different kernel, iirc). Also other binaries like rdate work simply by copying. |

Use aumix to change the volume (if needed). They both(GNU/Linux & GNU/kFreeBSD) work very well for me. |
another nice thing about Debian 6 is new 'sexy' font in terminal :)

If you want a newer kernel go to liquorix and install the latest 2.6.37 variety. Quote:
