+1 fluxbox

Just found out recently that the original author of blackbox migrated the code to a GitHub repo as recently as 2015. Unfortunately, no commits since then.

There's a fork of the project being maintained at https://github.com/bbidulock/blackboxwm and the last commit was Oct of 2018.

Fluxbox, baby. I tried Hackedbox (hard to tell the difference from Fluxbox IMO), Windowlabs (clunky) and maybe a couple others in passing but have used Fluxbox exclusively for 10 years or more.

Initially because of the low-end laptop I had and needed to be resource conscious. It does everything I need it to and wouldn't use anything else now.

that is not the information i get from that repository.
to me it looks like:
- it has been on github for 17 (!) years
- the latest commit was 4 years ago

Looking at the commit log, I see the maintainer's username is not linked to his profile, except for the very last commit. I suspect the SF cvs repo was migrated to a git repo, thereby retaining dates of commits.

Also was basing my assumption on the comments and dates on this ticket.

Oh, and a link (that leads to the Git repo) near the top of the blackbox SF summary page, the text reads " As of 2015-06-19, this project can be found here."

i don't fully understand it, but upon closer inspection it seems you're right.

Calm Window Manager (a.k.a. cwm)

i3 for me, as it is very Slackware friendly in my opinion (especially with plain text config and scripting friendly).

IceWM

I just want it to work and not fight me. IceWM has been my desktop of choice for years.

I'll second that - used it on FreeBSD for a long time, best minimal window manager I ever used. Used to be default on openBSD but now FVWM is, which I don't like at all.

Thanks Jeremy! Is there a way I can re-cast my vote?

Unfortunately votes cannot be changed once placed.
