I like mutt the most.

claws-mail -- worry free email management.

dchmelik 02-02-2018 06:32 AM

Apart from non-Free Software that wasn't freed, I used to like Netscape/Mozilla/Thunderbird mail, then additionally, Pine, then Alpine, then Re-Alpine (don't you actually mean that(?), the final continued version years ago) then switched back & forth between Claws and Thunderbird, while often using re-alpine on remote shells. Nowadays (as re-alpine, Thunderbird development mostly stopped, and Claws couldn't do mbox/movemail without a maybe still buggy plugin) the only that doesn't consistently frustrate me is 'ancient' Unix-style /bin/mail. I need something that can do Unix single-file-mbox/movemail, POP, IMAP in a GUI that can completely omit tabs, and allows both plain-text and HTML writing. Can Evolution do this, or do all contemporary email clients suck by my standards?

Have used Thunderbird for so many years, both on $$ and on Linux, that it's kind of part of the furniture in my mind. :D

I voted claws-mail, but would have gone for mutt as well!!

VamosBaby 02-03-2018 05:48 AM

I just use mutt. I am still waiting for Thunderbird to get native CardDAV and CalDAV support, until that happens it's mutt all the way.

Sadly, I see it being replaced by twenty instances of webmail in the next few yeatrs.

I prefer Thunderbird, but I have to admit there are a number of things which should be built-in instead of having to be installed as addons. I think Enigmail, gContactSync, Provider for Google Calendar, ExQuilla and similar addons should be built into Thunderbird instead of having to be installed separately.

I agree with those being built in also. The issue I have with plugins is that when there's a major version bump they often stop working with mixed results.

Always used Thunderbird. Used it in Windoze before switching to Linux 4 years ago. Never seen any reason to change; does what I need it to...

Mike. ;)
