Wanna try ratpoison, but haven't done it yet.

TWM is a must. Running KDE under TWM is experience never to forget. TWM has abilities many other wm's are missing. Well at the begining it can be bit difficult to work with, but this means much more fun, isn't? I complain: there are tilling and non-tilling wm's and these different kinds offer completely different way of work. So they should not be gathered together. For non-tilling I'm voting TWM, FVWM and for tilling awesome old version.

I like those choices but technically for me only vote KDE (it houses one for me.)

Hey Jeremy: Ratpoision, I think, has become unmaintained. New development is on StumpWM? Not a 100% sure on the lineage there. In any case, as Enlightenment has become increasingly "featureful" I've started using StumpWM https://github.com/stumpwm/stumpwm

According to http://www.nongnu.org/ratpoison/ they had a new release just a few months ago. StumpWM has been added.

Thank you, Jeremy. Cool that you're so respondent to these requests, even if it is rather late in the polls. Voted StumpWM, but the other that made my short list was i3. In the end, however, I found I preferred static to dynamic. A few years ago, when I ditched the ill fated Gnome3, Awesome caught my eye, but this time around I found I didn't care for it at all. Meh, must have been the Zenburn theme.... I use Solarize nowadays, anyways:D

FVWM now and ever ... just revisiting my config to suite the new bigger screen and deteriorated eyesight ... flexible and configurable in a single file, WYGIWYW What You Get Is What You Want !

spectrwm

No vote, see you in Desktop Environment for KDE... :)

Then you are probably using KWin... ;) It's on the list.

That would be Youtube worthy. :)

I love tiling window managers, but I've always found programs that don't work properly in them. I'll try AwesomeWM again this year, as it seems to be actively trying to address these issues (e.g. with Java).

I usually work around those programs with a) giving them their own workspace, b) telling the WM (I use i3) to start them in floating mode, or c) using them in fullscreen mode.

Hi
I'm using Krusader, very happy with it, but is not listed above. Can it be added?

I suspect you confuse "window manager" and "file manager"
