ktorrent

Open a terminal

#su
<root passwd>

You will see the name of the package manager, etc. It can install the program from the repository in the Vector Linux site.

I appreciate your help.

# slapt-get --help

Will tell you how to use it

OR see

https://vector.ecosq.com/ic/HowTos/H...lApps/packages

ktorrent, xtorrent, qtorrent, azureus, bittorrent, mldonkey, gnutella are all p2p applications. Ktorrent is easiest for bittorrent. (You can also install from the slackware site)

Ok thank you for your help can i ask you another question thats not related to p2p program I dont know if you know the answer or not but i have downloaded like 10 or 11 different iso's and from diferent mirrors and websites but everytime i download one and try to burn it the md5sum never checks out good its always bad why is that

shelnjoe 10-12-2008 01:01 PM

i read the website link you gave me and thats just telling me about the packages that come with vector linux or does that mean if i download a program and save it to the desktop when i run gslpat and update the package manager the program i downloaded from the internet and saved to the desktop will be in there?

shelnjoe 10-12-2008 02:36 PM

can someone help me download and install ares lite or something similar to that because im a total newbie to linux and i dont know where to start or what to do but i got to have music can someone please help me

amani 10-12-2008 09:02 PM

For different questions, use new threads.

slapt-get or gslapt

First you find what is available.
Then install the required packages (the package manager will download and install them for you).

You can also add the slackware repositories (but is it required?)

For music etc consider xmms, kmplayer, vlc, etc

slapt-get install ...

you control volume with mixer

you can rectify bad isos with ktorrent

Help me im a newbie

Does anyone know how to install a bittorrent on vector linux? I need help installing a bittorrent on here. I need someone that could help me step by step what to do. Treat me like an idiot i just want someone to help me. i want to be taught how to do it because i want to learn more about linux. I have searched google and searched google but i can't really find anything for vector linux except reviews for it. So can somebody please help me.

shelnjoe 10-12-2008 09:08 PM

I don't know how to install ktorrent. I thought xmms and kmplayer and stuff like that was just so you could listen to music. I want to be able to download it.

amani 10-12-2008 09:16 PM

#su
<root password>
#slapt-get --install ktorrent

#slapt-get --install xmms

etc

What did you read at the howto page?

amani 10-12-2008 09:18 PM

If ktorrent is not available, you can get them here:

http://ftp.linux.org.tr/slackware/sl...xtra/ktorrent/
http://ftp.linux.org.tr/slackware/slackware/extra

Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it. On the how to page i read about gslapt i didnt read the other stuff because i didn't think it applied to me because i had gslapt. I will try what you said to try and then i will post back and let you know if it worked or if i did something wrong. Again i really appreciate your help and your time.

shelnjoe 10-12-2008 09:43 PM

I downloaded from the first website link you gave me. I downloaded the file ktorrent-2.2.6-i486-1.tgz, but i dont know what to do now. could oyu walk me through it please.

amani 10-13-2008 11:23 AM

Suppose the ktorrent file is in folder /home/abc

Open Terminal
#cd /home/abc
#su
<root psswd>
#installpkg ktorrent*.tgz

That is it

Also update your system with slapt-get (see next post)
