Ubuntu 12.04 LTS desktop clock continues to be wrong

I have a VM of Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit running in VirtualBox.

I have noticed that the time time always ahead by one hour.

If I got to System Settings > Time & Date and either manually change it or select Automatically from the Internet and reboot the VM, it still stays ahead.

In troubleshooting, I have checked for open ntp ports with netstat -a command and got nothing back.

Also have checked firewall settings with ufw status and got back an inactive status.

I've googled around and have noticed that this appears to be an issue with 12.04 and have not seen a solid solution. Was wondering if anyone else had any other ideas on how to fix or is this something I have to live with.

And, my Windows hosts (v7) has the time zone set to UTC-6:00.

UPDATE: I have set the time to Mountain TimeZone (Denver) and reboot and now it has the correct time for Central TimeZone.

Have you tried toggling "Hardware clock in UTC time"? In other words either tick the box and let Ubuntu know the system clock is set to UTC (I suspect this is how you have it set now) or unticking the box and telling Ubuntu that your hardware clock is set to local time?
I take it your VM has the correct date also and it's not thinking it's on a different setting regarding daylight-savings-time or something?

It sounds like you are referring to settings under /etc/default/rcS, correct?

Here is the current config, which I haven't modified:

Code:
# /etc/default/rcS
#
# Default settings for the scripts in /etc/rcS.d/
#
# For information about these variables see the rcS(5) manual page.
#
# This file belongs to the "initscripts" package.

# delete files in /tmp during boot older than x days.
# '0' means always, -1 or 'infinite' disables the feature
TMPTIME=0

# spawn sulogin during boot, continue normal boot if not used in 30 seconds
SULOGIN=no

# do not allow users to log in until the boot has completed
DELAYLOGIN=no

# assume that the BIOS clock is set to UTC time (recommended)
UTC=yes

# be more verbose during the boot process
VERBOSE=no

# automatically repair filesystems with inconsistencies during boot
FSCKFIX=no
I also found this URL, which I think addresses the issue.

http://askubuntu.com/questions/11596...hardware-clock

I have changed both the Manually and Automatically form the Internet under Time & Date and rebooted both times and still not working.

I guess I can set the time to Mountain TimeZone to get by if need be. However I prefer the system to be a accurate as possible.

As for the host, its Windows 7 and is synced to time.windows.con and time zone is UTC-06:00.

thanks

I'm just going to move the TimeZone to mountain time as an easy fix.

I may try to syncn to a ntp server when I have time.

thanks
