apt-get dist-upgrade kooky

Hi-

If I run apt-get dist-upgrade on makululinux (ubuntu/debian) based, it acts crazy. Why does it want to delete my bluefish html editor or geany? The following packages will be REMOVED. I just don't trust it. Is there any way to reset that big list that it wants to remove and have it work over time on a case by case basis when new updates come through. I want to reset the REMOVE list if I can. Wondering if mintupdater uses apt-get dist-upgrade in the background or just upgrade to install new updates.

My other option is that Jacque Raymer is going to put on a lindoz edition and I really would like to use it.

I guess I am left wondering what did I do to anger the gods with apt-get dist-upgrade. THX. jim

Did you install any packages not from the repos?

It might help were you to post the precise output of the command. "Crazy" is a most expressive term, but it's not very detailed.

HI-

I am afraid something went terribly wrong.
I am doing a full backup on my home directory.
It is easy with gzip and tar.

Then I am going to install new system soon.

thx.

mtdew3q, I see nothing out of the ordinary in the output of that command (by the way, you might want to learn how to use "code" tags, which become available when you click the "Go Advanced" button on the compose post window.

Before I run a "dist-upgrade," I run an "update," an "upgrade," an "autoclean," and an "autoremove," so that my current system install is up-to-date before I run the dist-upgrade. My best guess without having physical access to your box is that the output you got just means a lot of stuff on your system needs to be updated/upgraded.

Hi Frank-

I will definitely use your advice from now on when updating/upgrading system with apt-get. I will run all the items you mention before dist-upgrade from now on. I might install new system this weekend. Not sure. So many choices. I made a cool backup first. Very cool.

THX!-
