I'm a recent convert to openSuse 13.1; overall, I'm very happy with it. I have one annoying issue, I cannot receive my Evolution email. I set up T-Bird, and Opera mail perfectly. I use a different password for my Evolution email, but I cannot find where to enter it.
In Preferences, I opt to edit the email account with issues. In receiving mail options, I enter my name, email address, and "Password" authentication.
There is no field for me to enter the password.
I look at mail on the Web server, but not using my email client.
My DE is Xfce. In passwords and Keys, I have the login password, and
the Evolution password set properly in "Evolution Data Source."
My login password is different from my email password.
If it means, yet another email client, I can do this. I like evolution for the calendar.
Again, this is just annoying, not a major issue I'd like to solve.
Are you running the initial Evolution set-up script?
When the initial setup script ran and asked me for account information, it set up the account, then, when I clicked "Finish," Evolution asked me for my password so it could go check the mail.
When you already have a working evolution and want to add an addition account to it, there will be a place to configure the password in the new account setup routine.
I did not run the script. I installed it with Yast. When I added a new account, using my current information, I did not get a password prompt, or see a field for the password. When I ran Evolution a few weeks ago (Linux Mint), it ran perfectly.
All I needed it for was the email, and calendar features in one application. My build of Thunderbird does not support Lightning for the calendar.
I have the Xfce desktop, I'm unsure of which email/calendar programs will run on this DE. I'm open to experimenting.
Sorry I can't help more. I was testing on Mint, so maybe I was in the "works perfectly" group.
Perhpas if you post a screenshot of the dialog in question, someone who knows more about Evolution than I will be able to help. It might also be useful to know which version of Evolution you are working with.
Did somewhat of a workaround, I installed Claws mail to get the email, and I will use evolution for the calendar. 2 programs? Yes, but I can do this with ease. This is now solved, and thanks for the ideas frankbell.
Regarding the screenshot, that's sort of similar to what I saw while testing last night. Had you continued on, I suspect that Evolution would have asked for your password when you clicked "Finish" and it went off to check on the mail.
I checked a few on-line tutorials. They showed the same screen and indicated that "Remember Password" should be checked, but did not say anything about entering the password on that page.
Claws is a very nice email program. I have used it from time to time, though I'm not currently using it. To appreciate its full capabilities, check out the plugins. In particular, AddressKeeper, Bogofilter, and Fancy provide useful functions. They should be in your repos, probably in a single plugins package; you can then enable the ones you wish to use.
