Doubtful. Patrick hasn't had it in -Current or /testing.

I hope so.

Why? Any specific reason?

If you absolutely need systemd then chances are you are using the wrong distribution to meet your needs.

As stated previously, unless it goes into -Current under /testing first after Patrick has tested it in private, chances of any software, not just systemd, getting added are VERY slim, unless it's a non-critical dependency like those with Xfce.

average_user 01-18-2015 06:01 AM

You got me wrong. I don't want to see systemd around. If Slackware adopted systemd that would mean that a disease took the entire Linux world and it is time to say hello to BSD. I was just joking when I said that 'the big surprise' is systemd.

ReaperX7 01-18-2015 06:56 AM

Heh... Well, if anything the big surprise could be anything.

My vote would be a Dobbs Head collector's DVD on the Store, signed by Patrick himself.

Why are people expecting a "big surprise" in the first place? Slackware hasn't surprised me in 20 years. I don't expect it to start now. ;)

BIG SURPRISE!
Patrick Volkerding has bought out Microsoft, thanks to generous donations and subscriptions from grateful Slackers. Windows 10 renamed Slackware 15.0.

gnashley 01-18-2015 07:32 AM

"Windows 10 renamed Slackware 15.0" Of course Pat only used a couple of 'cherry-picked' patches in order to accomplish that -otherwise it's pretty much 'plain-vanilla' as intended by the authors...

ReaperX7 01-18-2015 07:34 AM

Oh... I wonder if Patrick may name a successor?

brianL 01-18-2015 07:38 AM

He won't need to. He's been granted eternal life by "Bob".
Praise "Bob"!
Hail Eris!

This would be wonderful, my favorite Linux and my favorite desktop together finally!

Mate would add significant size to the install DVD, so doubtful. Nice, but doubtful. I'm thinking we'll get more updates than anything, and only tackle updates and any minor dependency includes if anything.

I can feel -Current is settling down, so it'll be soon, but there's still a lot of testing and finalizations to go.

It's a continuation of Gnome 2.

From my knowledge on MATE's birth... Gnome 2 was widely used by various flavors of UNIX. It was a fairly well designed desktop environment, but when Gnome 3 came out and changed everything, Gnome 2 fell into disrepair, and several developers decided to fork it to continue using it rather than Gnome 3 for obvious reasons including systemd and the atrocious layout.
