trail / wildlife camera software wanted

Does any one know how to download directly from a wildlife camera?
The camera is not recognised when I plug in the USB cable however I can get the pics via my sd card reader but would prefer to do it straight from the camera.

Need more information about the camera.

Zoneminder (from SBo) knows a bit about various cameras, so that (or the software that it uses) might be a start.

it's an HC-800 A model.
there is no company name on the box nor in the manual but google says it's a Lixada brand.
tried on a windows box which recognised it straight away via USB cable.

Does lsusb show anything interesting when you plug in the usb cable?

nyloc 11-01-2018 01:22 AM

I get this line added to lsusb
Bus 003 Device 043: ID 0603:8611 Novatek Microelectronics Corp.

also repeatedly getting a blue circle with exclamation mark and small window saying "no devices available" popping up.

Does it have instructions stating that it could do this?

A Raspberry Pi Zero is only $5 would make a pretty nice wildlife cam*...

don't forget the waterproof case, 3 infared sensors,20 meter range flash, colour screen, the equivalent of an 8 * AA battery pack and you are getting close to a wildlife camera.

thinking about this, it seems that the kernel is not recognizing the camera rather than I need software to look at the pics.

I use this : "gphoto2 --get-all-files" to pull pictures off my Nikon D7100. Perhaps it may help ???

Run udevadm monitor and plug the camera in - see if it's recognised.

seems were going down the rabbit burrow - sometimes it does nothing sometimes it generates errors.
still looks like kernel not recognizing it.
got some debug info which I will try and show you - haven't done this bit before.

Code:

0603  Novatek Microelectronics Corp.
00f1  Keyboard (Labtec Ultra Flat Keyboard)
00f2  Keyboard (Labtec Ultra Flat Keyboard)
        6871  Mouse
        8611  NTK96550 based camera

From the USB ID database. Your correct the kernel is not recognizing the device as a camera and I don't know what version supports the device.

nyloc 11-01-2018 06:34 AM

that didn't work
how do I put it in a little window?

nyloc 11-01-2018 06:46 AM

I'm running 14.2 current so I guess no version at the moment.

There's no such thing as 14.2 current. It is either 14.2 or -current (which is a development version of Slackware that will lead to the next release, in this case, Slackware 15.0).

If you are on 14.2, then you have the 4.4 kernel, which is a few years old at this point. -current has 4.19, which is the latest stable kernel release and it might have better support for your device than the 4.4 kernel.
