suspend to ram ( sleep) does not work on my Slackware64-current multilib

Previously I clicked on sleep in kde application launcher, and sleep working.
After I updated Mon Mar 26 01:41:11 2012 UTC, using kernel 3.2.13
no more works.

If I click on kde application launcher from sleep, sleep my pc starts and ends, but soon after it gets out. It does not stay sleep!

Any help thanks

And, BTW, when we talk about suspend/hibernate problems, there is a serious hardware and BIOS job. You should post details about every hardware component, the configuration of the peripherals, the loaded modules, kernel, etc...

Please attach "lspci -vvnn" and "lsusb" output. Also, the full "dmesg" output from booting the system and after the failed suspend.

Also, on that debugging stage, you should disable the loading of the VirtualBox modules, which are well known of badly interacting most times on suspend/hibernate. I even suspect them as the cause of problems.

And, as the first step of tuning, create a file:

/etc/pm/config.d/config

with the content:

Code:

SUSPEND_MODULES="usblp"
Of course, then test if something is changed in suspending...

Of course, then test if something is changed in suspending...
I removed VirtualBox...unfortunately, nothing has changed! :(
again thanks

It's probably a problem with the kernel or slackware, because I did a clean install slackware 13:37 and no problem.
Also the problem appeared after I upgrade the current on the day Mon Mar 26 01:41:11 UTC 2012.
Furthermore, I have windows 7 installed on another partition of my hdd, and windows7, "sleep" works correctly ...

no problem with my machine!

I think this may be related to:

Quote:

VT_DISALLOCATE: Device or resource busy
deallocvt: could not deallocate console 63
in
/var/log/pm-suspend.log

....
...
..
./

Darth Vader 06-26-2012 05:09 PM

Looks like your problem is right in kernel, maybe an unlucky driver...

After latest slackware-current update, to kernel 3.2.21, still you have problems?

BTW, you should not worry much about VT_DISALLOCATE, the single bad news is that you have activated a phantom console with number 63 (theoretically accessible with CTRL+ALT+F63).

afreitascs 06-26-2012 05:44 PM

thank you for the replies Darth Vader

I am not a scholar in linux. I use slackware since version 9.1, but I only (think I) know the basics. Nevertheless, I like Slackware!

I was doing experiments ...

I uninstalled nvidia drivers. When I used "sleep" the machine beeps. (!?) And black screen (no video) !

my /var/log/pm-suspend.log, this experience.

After latest slackware-current update, to kernel 3.2.21, still you have problems?
Still in the same situation after upgrading current! The new kernel did not help me!

Hi Darth Vader

I solved the problem! My printer is HP Deskjet 680c (it's old I know) and it uses the parallel port.

I use a "USB to Parallel Cable".

http://www.omega.com.tw/USB-Cable.asp I do not know if this is but it's very similar ... look attachment .

Intuitively, I decided to remove the cable from the PC. And "sleep" worked!

The strange thing is that using kernel slackware 13:37, "sleep" works with the cable!

Thank you for your kindness! :)
