Sound problem Slackware 10
Just done a new installation of Slackware 10 and after running alsaconf I get a constatnt tone from the speakers. I cannot turn it off without muting the sound.
How do I get rid of this noise? Alan |
So far
I found that by deleting etc/asound.start and running aslaconf again this got rid of the sound for root. However if a user logs in and starts kde the sound comes back when they startx. This is an annoying high pitched tone |
are you using KDE? If so, i had a problem like that a while back. I didn't really resolve it, but found that i had to mute/unmute the mic input from kmix when i first started KDE.

Yes there is a problem with kde.
It was so bad that I tries re-installing the whole thing but this did not help. I think I have it sorted now. Run kde, get the horrible whining sound open console su to root. alsactrl restore stops the sound. Then in kde control center/sound/mixer/save current volumes stops the sound recurring |
