SBO issues with Firefox - youtube no longer working (again) now.
 

Ok I just blasted Slack out - reinstalled it, checked my youtube in firefox - redid what I did and it goes blank - this time it did not go blank- it kept working so I changed into my dir where I keep all of my SBo.x.x.tgz installs installed everything back again. Then went and checked youtube again and bye bye video it is now no longer working again.

so if I run will it remove every SBo I installed and not screw up slack so I can play that one at a time install and check youtube until I find what is causing it to no longer work?

do you think ffmpeg maybe having something to do with it. what the hell would cause it to screw up from an outside app? grumble grumble grumble -- :banghead:

Are you using AlienBob's VLC? And what plugin are you using; flashplayer or npapi?

bob's it converts to mp3 because it is outside USA compiled vlc how ever he got that one setup.

If you haven't installed either flashplayer or npapi (from SBo or Alien's) you're not using either.

I end up recompiling Eric's VLC with MOZPLUGIN="NO" because it interferes with flashplayer-plugin for me for some reason.

Is the OpenH264 plugin activated in Firefox?!

this is actually another fresh install -- current - current I keep a mirror of current64 now and am using that to created iso to boot install off of.

I do not really mess with firefox per se' other than I have placed flash in the ~/.mozzia/firefox/plugins before but not lately. it has nothing right now at all it is a fresh Firefox directory in my home.

yeah it is in there in plugins that is the only one (thing) that is in plugins set to : always activate

youtube is no longer working video wise.

I added the new flash plugin off of adobe sight placed it in ~/.mozzia/plugins
videos do not work

Why don't you just use Eric's flashplayer-plugin?

IIRC, the only plug-in being recognized by Firefox, as of version 52, is Flash.
With all the problems some people seem to have I've started to wonder if it has something to do with possible confusion with the slackpkg system? :scratch:
Perhaps, just downloading what is needed and using,
upgradepkg --reinstall --install-new
might be a better course of action for some?

x264 is listed for me in version 52. Most videos I don't think use that on youtube. They use VP9 and Opus from what I can tell.

Firefox doesn't need Flash to play YouTube videos. Most of YouTube videos should play in Firefox out of the box (using WebM format), they simply won't be played in the best video quality possible. Higher quality videos are often encoded using H.264, recent Firefox versions (like the one in -current) require ffmpeg to play them. OpenH264 is used for WebRTC only AFAIK.

Since BW-userx is using -current, it could be that he hasn't installed SDL2 set of packages from the latest update, which are now required by ffmpeg, though I don't know if SDL2 is only needed for ffplay command or is linked with more parts of ffmpeg.

BW-userx, what does "no longer working" mean anyway? Are there any error messages? What does https://www.youtube.com/html5 show you?

I get a black screen with a fancy F in a circle right in the middle of where the video screen is. I just slapped flash in my home ~/.mozzia/plugins to see if that'd do anything. I did get it to play some videos but not all of . whatever random videos I clicked on. I suspect that is because some are of one type of format and the others are of a different type. It is hard for me to keep up with type of video youtube is playing now day, html5 etc...
