Problem with compile quakeforge.
|
|
Yes. And I try from homepage quakeforge.
Same result. |
do you have a slackware 14.1 full installation?
|
I don't remember. I uprade 14.0
(I wonder about the transition to the branch current.) |
I have replicated the problem: it builds fine on 64bit but fails with that error on 32bit.
I'll try to have a look. |
seems like you have to add --without-svga to the configure options on 32bit Slackware.
I wasn't able to find any fix for that (ever the latest version in their git breaks there). |
Thank you.
Option --without-svga helped :) |
For anyone interested: There is another Quake engine available: Darkplaces. It takes advantage of all of the newer graphics cards with the appropriate files (with the file extention .pk3). You can use the SlackBuild to repackage the binaries. To get the (IMHO) greatest Quake I mod ever, you can download the Quake HD Mod here. Just drop the files in the id1 subdirectory with your pak0.pak and pak1.pak files, and you are golden.
For anyone who remembers the original release of Quake, and used it as an excuse to buy the then-new 3dfx Voodoo Graphics card (back when 3D hardware acceleration was a strange and wonderful new thing), then the new look of Quake will blow you away. It looks (at least to me) that it could have been written somewhere in the mid-2000's, instead of the late 90's. And it plays fast, too. Who could ask for more? Regards, Matt |
I may have to try this if just to see how far it has come. Almost 5 years ago improved texture maps and a few q3config tweaks made a HUGE difference. Any lovers of Quake, old games in general or just the ins and outs of hardware and code will most likely enjoy, if not actually marvel at this
