Hadn't noticed any issues with fonts when printing.

Making PDF's OTOH on my Debian Sid system...

Haven't tried it yet with my Slackware here.

well, i must say that at least in writer fonts look a lot better than in 1.1 versions.

what exactly is the problem ? maybe oo.org can't find the correct font and is substituting it with other ?

And putting on my tinfoil hat, I find it very peculiar that Sun has received an influx of cash from MS, has declared Linux equals Red Hat as the prime strategy in their war (yes, that's what it is) on Linux, and then OOo suddenly starts distributing OOo in RPMs because, well, obviously, that's the only Linux package format. But that's just my tinfoil hat. Regardless, I still find it bone-headedly stupid and annoying. And I was reading a bug report and the thing was marked *solved* because the *official* response to a dude trying to get it working on Gentoo was to *install RPM*. Why the hell should a dude with something like portage have to muck up his system with something useless like RPM just for OOo? Why should Slackers? Archers? Anybody? What the hell - why not mark the damn bug solved with the advice that all a guy needs to do is install *WINE and MS Office*. There's a great solution for getting your office suite.

And to submit a bug, I have to *register* which I ain't doing and is why I'm bitching here. Sorry. We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread. ;)

Maybe it wasn't ready yet, but that's a graphical installer which work with ANY distro :)

Thanks, but that appears to be the same package of rpms. Maybe they'll have a change of mind by 2.0 final or I'll just take the rpm2tgz route.

Closer. :) Unless they just renamed 1.9.79 to 2.0 beta - were there additional changes between them?

OOo should still just have stuck with bleepin' installer. ;)

1.9.79 is the same as 2.0 beta

Cool, thanks. That's often the case but it seems like sometimes they throw in a fix or two at the beta bump.

I have the font installed on OO. It just can't render it correctly. It gets pilled up over each other. Or appeas as dots only. Not all fonts, but quite a lot of it.

After I roll back to 1.1.4, it happens there too. But, less fonts behave that way in 1.1.4 than 2.0 beta.

if possible, can you reproduce this on another machine ?

SlackBuild for binaries

Nothing like resurrecting an old thread...

The following is a SlackBuild script I've made for myself to automate all the rpm2tgz stuff, plus renaming the packages to Slack compatible names. It even builds menu items for KDE under K --> Office (lots of hacking apart of the SuSE menus package. They used the Office directory in the Kmenu, so I've just stuck to that). The script will, as with other SlackBuilds, leave you a collection of .tgz's in /tmp to install yourself.

It's been tested against 1.9.79 (I believe 1.9.84 is out though? In which case, just alter 'VERSION' and see if it works)

Still to do:

1) No Gnome menus
2) You still need to do the configuration yourself. However, I'm pretty sure you can skip the stuff about editing out other Java vendors, as I haven't and it runs fine. Still need to do this after installing the packages:

./pkgchk --shared

3) No descriptions - I don't really want to start pulling these packages apart just for the sake of one small text file, but I suppose it's possible.
