New install kde crash after install fglrx

Evening guys.

So thought i would do a clean install of slack 14.1 along with removing win 8 and installing win7. Both installed fine.

In slackware i have done

slackpkg update gpg
slackpkg update
slackpkg install-new
slackpkg upgrade-all
I then proceeded to follow alienbobs guide on multilib which went just fine. Restarted the computer.

After this i then downloaded the x84_64 ati drivers from the ati site for my card R9 270X. For which I

unzip amd-driver-installer-VERSION-x86.x86_64.zip
sh amd*
installpkg fgl*
created a conf file in /lib/modprobe.d/ and added

blacklist radeon
blacklist radeonhd

aticonfig --initial -f
After all this i restarted.

Logging into the system went fine, but when i click on firefox or some other apps it will crash kde and leave me at the prompt

Any idea why this would be
I will add to more posts withxorg, thread would only allow me to add 30k characters

I can confirm that this is a problem. I am running Slackware 14.1 64-bit, when installing fglrx the X server crashes on heavy graphical loads (KDE, wine, compiz, firefox are examples), but not when running lightweight programs. I havent found a solution for the problem yet..

I have a laptop running Slackware64 14.1. The fglrx driver installed and configured fine, but sometimes resulted in a complete crash/freeze. I decided to replace it by the free "radeon" driver (configured to use KMS), and now everything works perfectly.

I've had issues with the fglrx driver too. AMD's OEM driver quality is very poor. The free radeon driver works much better. Just stick to it and use the downloadable firmware as needed, rebuild libmesa with libclc for OpenCL, and libtxc_dxtn for s3tc support if needed, and use driconf for configuring it. Fglrx often isn't even worth it.

I concur with the comments from kikinovak and ReaperX7, in my case I am running Slackware 14.1 stable, so at lest for me running an unsupported kernel is not the issue at stake here. In my case the fglrx driver works, but very poorly with frequent crashes. Useing the free radeon driver is a much more smooth experiance in my experiance.
