installpkg not working
I'm trying to upgrade fluxbox, (I just installed slackware 10.0) but when I try to do "installpkg fluxbox.blah.blah.tgz" I get the message "installpkg: command not found"
What's causing this? |
Are you root ?
Did you install the packagetools ? Is installpkg in your path ? The command to upgrade a package is upgradepkg b.t.w. :) |
[obsolte] rotvogel won! :P [/obsolete]
Try /sbin/installpkg . If you use su, try using su - instead (it works without the - on my system but try it anyways). If you get a command not found, I would suggest you to take a look at /var/log/packages to see if pkgtools is installed. |
I logged in as root, and did /sbin/installpkg. Then it said "Installing package fluxbox.........." and a line below it "PACKAGE DESCRIPTION:" And after the prompt shows up again.
Not sure if it installed or now. I don't seem to be able to find out how to set fluxbox to be the default desktop environment either. |
xwmconfig
It gets asked alot around here. |
I had the same problem with upgrading fluxbox 0.1.14 to 0.9.9. I did #upgradepkg fluxbox-blabla fluxbox0.9.9blabla, saw the first package being removed, a whole bunch of error messages and a prompt. When I tried to start fluxbox, it didn't work. So I went to the Fluxbox site, downloaded the slack 10 package for fluxbox 0.9.10 and did installpkg, same result as aje. But fluxbox is working.

upgrading fluxbox is easier than you guys made it. all i did was untar the file from the / directory.
it automatically dropped it into the correct folders. i restarted flux and it works like a charm. |
upgradepkg worked fine for me :???:
|
upgradepkg usually works fine, but this time I think you can call it digititus( finger trouble). after looking up again, I saw that I picked up the wrong package (the one for 9.1 on the 10 box). Otherwise, no message no problem!;)
