DHCP vs. ipv6.disable=1

Hi,

Usually I disable IPv6 on a machine when I have no use for it by adding 'ipv6.disable=1' to the kernel options. Now when a desktop client asks for an IP address on startup, I get the following warning:

Code:
if_addaddress6: Operation not supported
As far as I know, this is dhclient at work. Is there any way to tell it not to look for an IPv6 address?

Cheers,

Niki

just did a bit of research (i use dhcpcd myself) and it seems dhclient doesn't do ipv6 by default.

see /etc/dhclient.conf if ipv6 is turned on ?

Do you mean adding the above to lilo.conf?
By a lot of digging, I found what worked for me to disable ipv6, making a new file in:
Code:
#/etc/modprobe.d/ipv6.conf
options ipv6 disable=1
This is effective to disable ipv6 on -current.
Code:
[root@~]# dmesg |grep -i ipv6
[ 46.085524] IPv6: Loaded, but administratively disabled, reboot required to enable
