cfdisk -- which device?

I'm having trouble with opening my partition table with cfdisk. I dont know what device to use, i have a few hard drives hooked up with scsi/raid. which device do i use?

It depends which hard disk you are wanting to install to and if you have any other SCSI devices connected, etc. More than likely it will be /dev/sda

KeithKessler 02-08-2005 10:41 AM

With RAID it could also be md0

tried /dev/sda and it gave me error message. and im not to shur about the haard drive configuration. how would i find that out with a linux slackware live cd?

On bootup you will see the list of devices and the corresponding hd* assignments, or if scsi, sd* assignments. I dont remember the log file off hand that you bootup is logged too but after booting up just 'shift' 'page up' and see what the assignments are and then you can fdisk that

what is the md0? and i will try it when i get to my computer at home.

?

What's your RAID controller? If it's an on-board controller, like Promise or Highpoint, it could also be /dev/hde-hdh

use `dmesg | less' to view the boot up messages, you can use the up down arrows to scroll through and press 'q' to quit when you're done.
